The game was anticipated to be a showdown between two potent lineups, but pitching took center stage.

The Phillies took the lead with Bryson Stott's RBI single and Bryce Harper's home run in the sixth inning

An eighth-inning controversial play gave the Phillies another run

leading to some disgruntled Braves fans throwing garbage onto the field.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Braves had a chance to stage a comeback, but an impressive double play by the Phillies put an end to their hopes

Despite being at a pitching disadvantage on paper, the Phillies' pitchers

led by Ranger Suárez and their bullpen, effectively shut down the Braves' offense

The game's outcome was a surprise, and Game 2 will see the Phillies with a pitching advantage
